Some Laptops Face Airline Ban

Virgin Atlantic, Korean Air, and Qantas Airways of Australia have stopped passengers using their Dell and Apple laptops for fear of overheated laptop computer batteries. Forget catching up with email off-line or watching a movie on these airlines. U.S. airlines have not followed suit yet, that could potentially affect thousands of international travelers. If you fly first class you can use the power outlets, so here's finally your justification for a "slightly more expensive" air ticket!!

Thank god Mark is not travelling with any of these airlines especially in October when he is due to attend a conference in Sydney!

International Day of Peace / Journée Internationale de la Paix #2

Our friend Vicki sent us an email on Friday, explaining what she did on September 21...here it is...

Hope you celebrated the 21st Sept in grand style -- yesterday being the UN's International Day of Peace.
At our children's school the Ecole Francaise in Luxembourg, G & I donated a tree, about 80 children made harmony ornaments, we planted and decorated the tree. They also wrote peace wishes which they tied to balloons which they let go.
Here in Lux we have had it talked about on ARA radio, a Round Table discussion, and this weekend a bit of a fest in town with music and activist stands are planned.
The attached picture is from our event.
The kids enjoyed. Now, next year I'd like to get more schools involved and talk even more about how to resolve conflicts without aggression.
If anyone is interested in doing something similar with their own school or home/work, please let me know, and I will happily pass info on to make it effortless, the UN and different organisations provide a lot of educational materials. I also have copies of a good english DVD on the subject which makes good viewing for adults and teenagers alike which I am happy to loan out, or play on our cinema here at home.
Maybe if we people take more note of the UN, our governments will.

I love ayou

I cannot believe how blessed we are to have such a wonderful little girl...tonight as I was putting her to bed I told her how much I loved her and kissed and hugged her. She put her little hands on my face and caressed it, kissed me back and said I love ayou!

I was so moved...she is only 2years old and she's been with us for only 6 weeks 1/2. but it seems she been with us since ever!

Je n'arrives pas à croire combien on est béni d'avoir une petite fille si extraordinaire...ce soir alors que je la couchait, je lui dit combien je l'aime et je l'embrasse. A son tour elle pose ses petites mains sur mon visage, le caresse, m’embrasse à son tour et me dit « I love ayou » !

J’étais si émue…elle n’a que 2 ans et est avec nous depuis 6 semaines 1/2 seulement bien que cela me semble qu’elle a toujours été avec nous!

Dearest Sophie and Kris,

I am so sorry that your brother’s (and brother-in-law’s) girls cannot join you in the celebrations of this joyful day but we are there in our thoughts, spirits and prayers.

I am ecstatic for both of you. I can’t say I know you Kris very well at all, but it appears you truly complement one another. I understand you met as friends and it evolved into a love that so many people rarely find today. Love after all, doesn’t make the world go around… Love is what makes the ride worthwhile. And it’s a wonderful thing when two people who were made for each other manage to fall in love.

Remember life isn’t always what you expect it to be…sometimes it is better…sometimes it is worse…sometimes you think that all the doors in front of you are closed and even locked and then suddenly you see a little light appearing out of the blue from one door that wasn’t closed after all

It tells me there is no memory stick in it but there is...They tell me it takes a minimum of 3 weeks to have it repared as they need to send it to Sony Benelux. What am I going to do without a camera???

Crazy about maps...Fou de cartes géographiques

Our Princess is still too small for this but I'd still like to get it for her in a few years time. It appears to be a very infomative map made especially for children. It's full of illustrations (it says where mountains ranges, deserts, seas are located what type of animals are found in each region of the world etc.).

I wish I had one like this growing up, since my familly was so scaddered around the world...it would have been easier (and fun) looking where cousin Marisa was living or where cousin Alex was moving to...

Since Bhavishya already has a hot air ballon hanging from the ceiling in her room I guess it would be appropriate to have such a map hanging on the walls ;-)

De plus en plus de couples stériles, venus des 4 coins du monde, débarquent en Inde à la recherche d'une mère porteuse. Louer un ventre y est facile, rapide et beaucoup moins cher. Un vrai business qui profite de la misère des uns et du désespoir des autres.

Lorsqu'il leur a fallu trouver de nouvelles solutions pour résoudre leur problème de stérilité, Bobby et Nikki Bains, qui vivent dans la banlieue de Londres, n'ont pas été à court d'idées. Après les plantes médicinales, la prière, les astrologues, les devins et autres gourous indiens, ils ont finalement apposé une affice sur la vitre arrière de leur voiture: "Recherchons mère porteuse contre 14 000 euros". Après 5 FIV ratées et 2 années de recherches infructueuses pour dénicher une mère porteuse en Angleterre, le couple a opté pour une solution qui ne leur pose aucun problème de conscience: louer le ventre d'une Indienne pour porter leur enfant.
C'est grâce aux annonces publiées dans la presse de Bombay qu'ils ont trouvé une mère consentante, que Nikki décrit comme "très gentille": "A nos yeux, elle était la plus compatible. Elle est petite, comme moi, et de plus nous avons la même couleur de peau."
Nikki et Bobby Bains font partie d'un marché en plein essor: le tourisme de la fertilité. Des prix bas, une vraie qualité de soins, des donneuses d'ovules et des mères porteuses disponibles attirent de plus en plus de couples européens, mais aussi thailandais, russes et chinois, en Inde, un pays qui offre l'avantage de disposer de médecins anglophones.
Si l'on en croit un rapport publié par les cliniques spécialisées dans le traitement de la stérilité en Inde, le nombre d'enfants nés grâce à des mères porteuses a plus que doublé ces 3 dernières années, et rapporté plus de 350 millions d'euros par an. "Dans mon établissement, le nombre de couples anglais et américains a effectivement explosé, constate le Dr A. Malpani, directeur d'une clinique à Bombay. Environ 15% de mes patients sont aujourd'hui des étrangers qui n'ont aucun lien familial dans notre pays".
Les couples stériles sont attirés non seulement par le coût réduit des traitements médicaux, mais aussi par une réglementation peu contraignante. Les autorités britanniques ont déclaré illégale la rénumération des mères porteuses. Seuls leurs frais peuvent être remboursés à hauteur de 14 000 euros, ce qui ne motive guère les vocations. En revanche, le Conseil Indien pour la recherche médicale autorise les mères porteuses à réclamer une compensation financière en plus du remboursement de leurs dépenses- qui dépassent rarement 4 000 euros.
Les grossesses par FIV en Grande Bretagne sont si coûteuses- les cliniques privées, qui en réalisent 70%, les facturent 14 000 euros par tentative- et si complexes que la BBC en a fait une série TV, "The Family Man", qui dépeint les aventures d'un énigmatique expert en fertilité. Les cliniques indiennes, elles, proposent le même traitement médical pour environ 5 600 euros- billets d'avion et séjour à l'hôtel compris. Alors que, dans les cliniques anglaises, on n'accepte d'implanter dans l'utérus que 2 embryons à la fois, les médecins indiens en permettent 6.
C'est cette flexibilité qui a incité le couple Bains à entreprendre leurs démarches dans ce pays. "2 embryons en Angleterre, 3 fois plus ici... la probabilité de concevoir un enfant dès la 1ère FIV est du coup plus elevé". Mais les complications médicales sont réelles quand on implante autant d'embryons. Le Dr Malpani se défend en arguant que si la technologie était parfaite, il se limiterait à un seul. "Avant d'atteindre ce stade de perfectionnement technologique, nous estimons que les clients ont le droit de choisir le nombre d'embryons à implanter".
Les dangers des grossesses multiples sont pourtant parfaitement connus: risque plus élevé de naissances prématurées, de nouveau- nés de petit poids, et de morts- nés. Outre ces écentuelles complications médicales, qui peuvent aussi mettre en danger la santé des femmes, les mères porteuses sont très souvent stigmatisées par leur entourage. "Nikki numéro 2"- c'est ainsi que Nikki a rebaptisé sa mère porteuse- a avoué au couple Bains que sa famille n'était pas franchement ravie de la voir porter l'enfant d'une autre.
Les clients étrangers apprécient aussi de ne pas attendre longtemps pour obtenir un RDV, même si cela suppose un voyage en Inde. Rosa Tyser, qui vit dans le Tennessee, voulait, elle tomber enceinte grâce à un embryon indien, pour donner naissance à un enfant qui ressemblerait à son aîné, adopté en Inde. Après une recherche infructueuse aux USA, elle a découvert la clinique Malpani. "Les couples investissent beaucoup de temps, d'énergie et d'argent pour réaliser leur désir de construire une famille".
Les complications ne sont pas seulement médicales, mais également éthiques. Outre les risques qu'encourent les mères porteuses, ce genre de pratique reste un champ de mines légal. Le Conseil indien pour la recherche médicale n'offre aucun cadre juridique aux clients étrangers qui font appel à des mères porteuses. Les couples qui entrent dans cette procédure doivent adopter leur enfant selon la législation indienne. Et comme l'Inde n'a pas signé la convention de La Haye qui régit l'adoption internationale, la procédure locale n'est pas reconnue par la loi britannique.
En clair, de retour en Grande Bretagne, les parents doivent à nouveau adopter l'enfant. Ce processus, qui implique l'obtention d'un agrément et donc l'approbation des services sociaux, peut prendre 2 ans. Mais le couple Bains n'a pas l'air de se soucier de ces difficultés. Bobby et Nikki feront tout pour amener leur enfant à la maison. Bien que la mère porteuse n'ait pas été enceinte l'an dernier, elle a entrepris une 2de FIV (avec le sperme de Bobby et un ovule de Nikki). Ils sauront bientôt si cette insémination a fonctionné.
"Nous lui versons de l'argent pour son éducation, expliquent- ils. Nous veillons à ce qu'elle prenne bien ses médicaments et à ce qu'elle se nourisse correctement. Nous gardons toujours un oeil sur elle. Quand elle se rend à l'hôpital pour les examens, on nous prévient par courriel qu'elle n'a pas oublié son RDV", dit Nikki. Le couple la paie 560 euros pour suivre le traitement, et elle touchera 7 000 euros après l'accouchement.
Si elle accepte de donner naissance à un 2ème enfant,le couple Bains la paiera le double. Et en cas d'échec? "Nous envisagerons d'acheter l'ovule d'une autre femme, ou bien nous chercherons une autre mère porteuse. Mais "Nikki numéro 2" restera toujours dans notre coeur, comme un membre de la famille", conclut Bobby.
Les époux Bains sont si sûrs de leur bon droit qu'ils ont créé un site internet pour partager leur histoire et aider d'autres couples stériles à entrer en relation avec des cliniques spécialisées en Inde. "C'est comme un jeu de hasard, explique Nikki: on ne cesse de parier, jusqu'à ce que l'on réussisse".

A promise for my Darling Daughter and more

On September 11, 2001, we had just endured our 4th IVF BFN after 9 years of TTC and numbers of other treatments prior to that. What a blow…we had so much hope…all was going so well considering…I felt so sorry for myself and thought to myself how many treatments, how many miscarriages would I need to suffer before having our child? I felt all was so unfair, girls who never really wanted children would get pregnant “by accident” and never wanted to be mothers and these “poor” woman had to face other challenges…”keep my babies or ???” I hated the fact that my uterus was functioning so badly I wasn’t capable of getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy…Boy I felt so sorry for myself (if only I knew that this wonderful little Girl called Bhavishya, yes you my darling, was going to be our daughter it would have made things a lot easier…)
Well up until that day, Bhavishya, your father and I and most people we knew were living in a dream…I guess we lived in a privileged world…we are of a generation who doesn’t know what it is like to live through a war…
I can assure you that all of us will always remember where we were and what we were doing when we first heard about 9/11- Those of us who are old enough to remember and realised what happened that day can all honestly say that our lives were never be the same again…the images we saw that day and the days to follow were simply horrific.
Bhavishya, my love, I don’t want to scare you, I am just promising you that your Father and I will always do our outmost best to shelter and protect you from bad things and people, from evil for as long as we can. One day soon you will be big, and you will begin to understand the world around you. You have good people and bad people…We hope that you will look at the world and always see the potential for good. Remember my Darling, it's up to you and those of your generation to forge ahead and try to mend this shattered world. And remember love and tolerance are some of the keys that will open many doors…

Bhavishya is doing so much better...although she still has tummy upsets. We have a feeling that she doesn't digest the food she eats. We are due back to the Dr on Tuesday.

Bhavishya va beaucoup mieux...même si elle est toujours "dérangée" des intestins. On a l'impression qu'elle ne digère pas la nourriture qu'elle mange. On a un autre rdv chez le pédiatre mardi.

Bhavishya est malade / is sick! #4

Good news! We managed to stabilise her!!! No more weight lose which is great news! She still has a huge stomac and she still has very bad cramps. She eats like a horse but it is as if it goes in and goes out nearly immediately after the food intake. It is as if her little body cannot absorb the nutrients. We still haven't got all the results for her tests...but the medicine, carrots, rice, lean meat, no fat, apples, bananas and blue berries seem to have done the trick! She still has a fever on and off during the day but she has started to be naughty today which means she is recovering slowly!

Our goal now: we need to try to make her gain some weight...

Bonnes nouvelles! On a réussi à la stabiliser!!! Plus de perte de poids ce qui est GENIAL! Elle a toujours un gros gros bide et a de grosses crampes. Ellen mange comme un cheval mais aussitôt avalé aussitôt resorti! Comme si son petit corps n'arrivait pas a absorber les nutrients. On a toujours pas les résultats des examens médicaux...mais les médicaments ainsi que les carottes, le riz, la viande très maigre, pas de corps gras, les pommes, mirtilles et bananes semblent l'aider...Elle a toujours de la fièvre de temps en temps. Aujourd'hui elle m'a fait pas mal de bêtises ce qui veut dire, à mes yeux, qu'elle va mieux!

Notre but: On doit essayer de la faire prendre du poids...

I would like to thank you for being patient with me, for listening to me (when you are not too absorb in your reading ;-)) for allowing me to be cranky early in the morning and or for letting me sleep as long as possible, for letting me be myself, for giving me confidence, for trusting me, for teaching me things and for teaching me to laugh at myself, for making me laugh, for letting me do things I love, for being my guinea pig when I cook, for letting me be addicted to "Lost" and "Desperate House Wife", for letting me listen to the music I love even if you don't like it, for letting me go scuba diving or skiing when I fell like it, for accepting my friends and loving them for whom they are, for making me persue my dreams,for making me a mother, for loving our beautiful daughter, for loving our dog, for loving me, for making me a better person...

Bhavishya est malade / is sick! #2

Well, she is still sick...yesterday was a lot worse than Saturday and today...On Friday the Doctor said that should she lose more weight she will need to be hospitalised and be put on a drip :-(

I am worried sick...Poor little Darling!

Elle est toujours malade...hier c'était bien pire que Samedi et aujourd'hui il y a une petite amélioration...vendredi le Doctor a dit que si elle devait perdre encore du poids elle devrait être hospitalisée et qu'ils devront lui poser une perf :-(


Je me fais tant de soucis...la pauvre Puce!
